LEMUXTAPE #1: Coralcola

For the first LEMUXTAPE in the series I have asked one of my favourite up and coming producers to lend some of the magic behind his own magic. Coralcola, an American dream glitch guru who with the help of his pulsating, atmospheric clips'n'cuts tracks has spawned comparisons to Sweden's own critically acclaimed techno artisan The Field.

Coralcola's track Heath Ledger, a tribute to the deseased actor of the same name, has been warmly nurtured with blog love from several directions. It's an amazing track - a future classic for those who has had the joy to discover the breathtaking epic. One can then not wonder what will possibly happen to Coralcola if a connection between the tribute track and the mega-hyped summer blockbuster movie starring the beforementioned deseased actor was publicly displayed.

To my surprise and suspicious understanding, Coralcola did not put a The Field track into his LEMUXTAPE. This is not needed however as we start the musical journey through a such beautiful track I'm embarrassed I haven't heard it before and as it goes we will be visiting Turkish indie, French touch, 80s synth-dance-punk, various experimentally positioned installments, dubstep, noise and drone music and a new Coralcola exclusive track! I've been talking shit way too much now - time for take off! Click the link below to listen to the LEMUXTAPE. Coralcola, the word is yours!

LEMUXTAPE #1: Coralcola

1. The Paradise - In Love With You
A French house tune of another planet from Alan Braxe and Romuald. I can't decide whether i love the piano or the "ooooh" better. This song is a sloppy beautiful mess. Will definitely be played at my wedding.

2. Tycho - The Daydream
One can only be so patient when it comes to waiting for new Boards Of Canada, but Tycho makes it a lot easier on my ears with this sun drenched melody fest. He also does some wonderful design work.

3. Black Moth Super Rainbow - I Think It's Beautiful That You Are 256 Colours Too
What says summer more than some Black Moth Super Rainbow? Really looking forward to the new Tobacco record coming soon. this was the first BMSR song I ever heard and I was blown away, maybe you will be too.

4. New Order - Hurt
I remember getting the 2nd disc of substance at al-bum's when I was about 13. It was my first New Order record and this song always stood out for me. I especially love the harmonica part.

5. André Obin - Colorwheel
André was also on the bill when I opened for The Field. Great guy and great tunes coming out on Moodgadget. This melody gets stuck in my head far too often. Look out for a Coralcola remix of this track.

6. My Favorite - Homeless Club Kids
Going back to my teenage years, I dont think enough people knew about this band. The best new wave band you've never heard, trapped in the early 2000s. Impeccable lyrics sung by the voice of an angel.

7. Matthew Dear - Deserter
I think this song is destined to be a classic. Get me some drinks and I will gladly croon this out to you on a sidewalk at 4am.

8. Fuck Buttons - Sweet Love For Planet Earth
Wait for itttt....Waiiittt forr itttt.... These guys make the prettiest noise I've ever heard. Sexyugly.

9. Burial - Homeless
A summer night without any Burial? Weowww weoww.

10. Kim Ki O - Kapali Kapali Kapali
I first learned of this band from Istanbul on the blog of Jens Lekman. It's sung in Turkish and it's a song about heartbreak, and closing off your heart. But I find the song optimistic. I really love the recording as well. Been listening to them a lot this year.

11. Jesu - Dead Eyes
Justin Broadrick can do no wrong in my opinion. Beautiful gazey sludge and a vocoder? Does it get any better? The epic closer to the incendiary Silver ep.

12. Coralcola - A Different World
And last but not least, an unreleased track I've had lying around. Can you hear the sleep deprivation? Enjoy!

Ten Questions

The Lemur: Hi Coralcola! I'm a fan of both you and The Field, who you often get compared with. I know you are a fan as well and undoubtedly it has had a more or lesser impact on your own music Have you had any negative experiences in being dubbed "American The Field?"

Coralcola: Haven't had any negative experiences yet. Everyone's been really supportive. People seemed to be really into the tunes when I opened for him. Axel's a really nice guy, and told me he enjoyed my set. Some think I'm just trying to keep him on his toes so his next record is better than the last.

The Lemur: But if we're to play with thoughts here, how do you think it would sound if you remixed a The Field track or vice versa?

Coralcola: I think that would be hilarious. Like mirrors facing mirrors, space always expanding. Samples that dont exceed .0003 seconds in length.

The Lemur: No matter what you think about being compared to The Field, what if we would just get a little closure here on this issue? What, in your opinion, are the main differences between your and The Field's music? Why are you the choice of rejoice?

Coralcola: I think the main difference between The Field and Coralcola is that The Field heads toward more of an ambient direction while I go for a more popfriendly tune. I think I'm just as influenced by Axel as I am by French filter house like Le Knight Club and old shoegaze like Ride and The Cocteau Twins. I think I'm becoming trance to be honest.

The Lemur: Now, this Muxtape is about you. Or really it sort of isn't by the way – it's also about the artists and tracks you've chosen. If you take an honest look at the tracklist again, can you state that this Muxtape covers most parts of the Coralcola core soul?

Coralcola: This muxtape was really fun to put together. I really tried to mix it up a bit. I didn't want to use all electronic music. I was definitely going for a rainy summer night type of mood. I'm sure I could've gotten deeper into it if it wasnt for the 12 track limitation. I really like 'A Different World'. I've been sitting on a few versions of that track and I'm glad that people can finally get to hear it.

The Lemur: Core soul by the way. I read somewhere that dreamglitch has been used by fans and liked by you as a description for your style. Wouldn't you agree with me that soulcore is a pretty witty name for your poignant aural atmospheres?

Coralcola: Someone from Japan emailed me and was like "I love your dreamglitch!" and I just thought that was a very sweet compliment. Soulcore has a nice ring to it though. I'm not sure how 'core I am though.

The Lemur: It is my understanding that you've been working on two EP's that has been on topic for quite a while now. I don't wish to stress you more than necessary but I think there's a great deal of people out there who would be interested in seeing the name Coralcola on a jpg or a phsyical sleeve sometime soon, wether they know of you or don't. But now you have to take a stand to the most intricate hypothetical dilemma (?) a musician can face: Narrowly distributed releases on a small indie label with full power over your music or widely acknowledged and highly regarded promotional campaigns for your music through a major label with a limitated influence of the creative process and artistic layout?

Coralcola: I've been slacking on the EPs and I'm really sorry to anyone that's been getting anxious. "Keep 'em wanting more" they say, but in all honesty, I'm waiting until I can get into a proper studio and get a good mix that I'm happy with. I don't want to release something I'm not 100% proud of. I'm really not worried about labels currently. When I finish these tunes they'll be released with full artwork online for free. Maybe I'll set up a paypal where people can donate a few bucks if they really enjoy them.

The Lemur: As many others I'm interested in the technical and tactical process of music making. For all the tech-nerds: Can you tell us a little about the equipment you use when creating your tunes?

Coralcola: I just recently switched to a mac, so I'm still learning the os and what not. I really like the mac. But sometimes I miss that old pc. For Coralcola I utilize Ableton Live, an Akai mpc1000, and assorted Midi controllers. Right now I'm starting to put together the live show which will be really fun. I'll have a live drummer and a vj alongside me, and it'll be more a visual experience rather than just me tweaking knobs by myself.

The Lemur: Myself I'm actually a little bit more into the psychoanalytic states of musicians. What inspires you? Have any special momentum or factor that emits inspiration more than anything else?

Coralcola: What I love is going out to the club and feeling that bass in your chest. It's funny because when I go out to the club, I really just want to go home and work on tunes. Driving home from the city during the sunset. The sound of the suburbs at 4am. Also, a little w33d doesnt hurt the creative process.

The Lemur: Where does the name Coralcola arrive from?

Coralcola: Coralcola is the name of a village in an old Nintendo game called Startropics. it was one of my favorite games growing up and I thought that name just had a nice ring to it.

The Lemur: I've saved the most pretentious and philospohical question, that might just stand as the most primitive and fundamental music-interview question of all, for last. Why do you make music?

Coralcola: I make music because it makes me feel like everything's gonna be okay. I stress out about a lot of stupid things, but when I'm making tunes I'm in my own world. Making music is my xanax.

Thanks a lot to Coralcola for paying the interest and time to be on this project. I've definitely got a great feeling about LEMUXTAPES now and I can't wait to drop the next one. We'll see when that will be. Now you are able to download the excellent exclusive track A Different World by Coralcola here below.

Xanax Side Effects said...

My name is Wendy Angus and i would like to show you my personal experience with Xanax.

I am 45 years old. Have been on Xanax for 2 years now. In working with a wonderful doctor and therapist, I have learned Meniere's Disease is an anxiety=provoked condition, and is the worst thing I have ever suffered in my life. To manage this, I take a low dose of Wellbutrin everyday and have a 1mg Rx for Xanax, which I am supposed to take 3x-a-day, but to be honest, I usually only take about 3-1mg a week, so only taking it when I honestly feel "too anxious". I also take Meclizine for the Meniere's attacks and those are only as needed as well. I feel the Xanax is better to have around than not, for my personal conditions. It took me a long time to balance out my meds, and taking too much xanax feels as horrible as the withdrawl can be, as I've experienced both. Now, after much time in getting to know what my body needs and how I am feeling (like with anxiety), and removing the 'stigma' of having to take a drug to manage my conditions is now over, taking just a few pills a week seems to work beautifully.

I have experienced some of these side effects -
It makes me very thirsty (dry mouth) but seems to work well in combination with other drugs for my conditions with no ill effects.

I hope this information will be useful to others,
Wendy Angus
