I just read at my new favourite blog (well, at least it's got THE funniest name and top picture) about a track that was questioned to be by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk. I commented the post and wrote this:
"Regarding the Daft Punk (?) track:
I don't think it's real, and NO, NOT "really good". Trite halfhearted electro if you ask me. A duo of Daft Punk's calibre can't make a track like this and expect to keep their dignity, no. Especially not after already having done one musical statement through Human After All (I love it, but hey, could easily have been better, right?).
If this is anywhere near being an authentic DP track, it's most certainly an early pre-production soundcheck experiment that has leaked, at the most."
Have a listen yourselves and judge it. I don't want to be spreading any false rumours or anything but probably will anyway so stay critically reviewing.

Here's another of those "can-we-trust-wikipedia-on-this-one" moments:
"A 2008 interview with Pedro Winter revealed that the duo have returned to their Paris studio and are working on new material."
If this is true, we will have the hype of a lifetime unheard and unseen of before. But how will the duo manage to top their earlier success? Or more like, how and where do they go from here? It's extremely hard, but I would suggest a fusion between:
1. A retrospective fall-back on the minimalistic French touch dance music
2. Cartoonish, colourful, groundbreaking discopop
3. Raw and straightforwardly repetitive but catchy electrobangers
If Immuzikation would mash up these tracks: would we have the soundalike of the first single from the duo's supposed fourth studio album?

Or what if they would take themselves literally for once, would it sound like this?

Or will one half of the duo make it sound more like suave electropop about sex, due to recent production works?

And will the other half of the duo counter that with a more like hyper hi-fi massive wall of sound electrobanger sound, due to edit works of recent years?

Thanks for the Signatune edit! I've never heard that one before! I do hope Daft pumps it up a bit more too. I really enjoy your blog BTW :D
Alright, here's what I've got:
-on Daft Punk recording a new album

-also on Daft Punk recording

(it's in Pitchfork's 6th question, if you don't want to read it)
As for "Daft Gang," I remember being on MySpace a while ago, and seeing Daft Punk in my Friend Updates list. Unusual, since activity on their MySpace is very, very limited. The update was that Daft Punk had added a new song called "Daft Gang." I obviously ran (surfed?) to their profile, only to NOT find the song in the player. I scrolled down to the comments and read a bunch of people saying stuff like "Where's the song?!" I ended up reading a comment saying the song had been removed but was added to somebody's profile, and I ended up downloading the track from that profile. Unofrtunately, though, this was just someone playing with DP fans' eagerness for new Daft goodness just to get profile views or something, becuase the song ended up being a mash-up of Sugar Hill Gang's "Rappers Delight" and "Around The World."
I kept it anyways, and according to iTunes, I added it to my library on June 14.
As for this song you've posted,
if it really is Daft Punk, it's really exciting to hear new material! I'm going to need to give it a good listen or two (or 17) before I make any judgements...
There's absolutely no way that's daft punk.
if it is its very early, and probably an album song, not a single.
given that one half has been working with Sebastian Teller on his new album, its possible that they could be experimenting with longer vocal segments. Though the electro vibes feel more like there coming from Lifelike than DP, if they shift within there style at all, I think we would see them shit more Ed Banger, nu-rave/indie, than towards a more commercial electro sound.
No no NO!! This is not Daft Punk! It's not even Moroder. This is cheap hipster electro.
First of all, the tempo is way too fast. DP is too chill for this and would not give up their smooth filter house roots to chase the blog house sound and stylebite fidget producers. Nor have they ever changed verse/chorus in eight bars or under. DP songs rival trance in their repetition, 16 or 32 bars at least for every section.
Second, vocoders do not automatically equal Daft Punk. If and when they use one, it's to filter a sample or recording. This on the other hand only chops up a pre-vocoded sample. And it's a bad sample at that! Every hit and half their albums have been sampled, I think they have an ear for it, no?
Third, Daft Punk does not use cheap digital softsynths! They are not about to ditch their prized vintage studio gear just to chase a trend. And where are the overcompressed drums? What is this? No thick disco beats, no 909 drum machine, just generic tech house loops. And the reversed cymbal every eight bars? What!?
Finally, its not even good. The vocoded sample is dull, the synth is boring, and the four notes in the arpeggiated bassline sound out of key.
This is not Daft Punk. Not even close.
